Online games are hugely popular but not always accessible to everyone. For many games, players need to download an app in order to play, or they need a specific console that they can play the game on.
However, this does make it difficult to play the same game with or against a friend if they’re not using the same equipment. Luckily, these days more developers and designers are opting to use solutions like those provided by Pley to ensure their games are cross-platform playable.
What is cross-platform play?
Cross-platform play or gaming is the ability to play a game on multiple platforms against players using a different hardware system. This means that if one player is accessing the game in web form, they can still play against someone using the console version of that game. Importantly, this also means being able to pick up where you left off, even on another platform.
While there were some factors preventing this for many games, namely security and closed circuit operations, this has begun to change. Developers such as Sony have ensured their games, like Fortnite, have cross-play ability. It’s just a case of turning it on for players who want to use it. This makes the game more accessible to a wider player base.
